A Race
In 1 Corinthians 9:24-27, Paul speaks of a race that all of us face. A race in which only a few win the prize, the question is, what is the point in racing if the prize is “a crown that will not last forever.” We may run many races and obtain many material possessions in this world, but those prize vanish when we die. After all, when we die everything ends, right? No, the truth is that the race we run as a Christian is absolutely worthwhile. The prize we run for is “a crown that will last forever.” When Paul mentions this crown that lasts forever, he is figuratively talking about eternal life in heaven. So, as one can see, it is absolutely imperative that we “beat” our body and make it our “slave”. A runner must go “into strict training” in order to win a race. The same is true for Christians. We must devote all our mind, body, and soul to one thing. And that one thing is Jesus Christ. I encourage you to go back and read 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 and meditate on it. Afterwards, challenge yourself to do more for the Lord every day in increasing amounts. There is a race at hand that must be won!
